ADOLESCENT SERVICES

At NorthPointe Family Center we are saving adolescent lives. NorthPoint provides a safe environment to stabilize at risk youth. Many adolescents have mental health problems that interfere with their normal development and daily life activities. Some mental health problems are mild, while others are more severe. Adolescents can have mental health disorders that interfere with the way they think, feel, and act. When untreated, mental health disorders can lead to school failure, family conflicts, drug abuse, violence, and even suicide.

  • Studies show that at least one in five children and adolescents have a mental health disorder.
     
  • Suicide is considered to be the second or third most common cause of death among youth.
     
  • Anxiety disorders are among the most common mental health problems that occur in children and adolescents.
     
  • Attention-deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects an estimated 4.1 percent of youths ages 9 to 17.
     
  • Eating disorders, including anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa, are common among adolescent and young women in the US.

Signs of difficulties may be any of the following:

  • Suicidal thoughts or actions; thoughts of death
  • Depression
  • Withdrawn Behavior
  • Mood Swings
  • Physical acting out towards self, others, or objects.
  • Alcohol and/or drug abuse
  • Inability to cope with problems and daily activities
  • Change in sleeping and/or eating habits; intense fear of weight gain
  • Excessive complaints of physical ailments
  • Defiance of authority, truancy, theft, and/or vandalism
  • School problems: behavioral and/or academically
  • Frequent outbursts of anger

Discharge Planning

Discharge Planning is initiated upon admission and is in place at discharge. Through ongoing communication with the referring professional, the patient and family experiences a smooth transition to community-based services or residential programs.

Family Involvement

At NorthPointe Family Center we recognize that family involvement is essential to the treatment process. Through the use of individual family sessions and involvement in groups, the family is educated on mental health issues, conflict resolution, effective communications and parenting skills.


Adolescent Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient Program.

A structured treatment program for adolescents, ages 13-18 who are in crisis. The purpose of the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program is to evaluate, stabilize and treat adolescents who are experiencing a crisis situation and need immediate intervention. The program focuses on intensive evaluation, treatment, and aftercare planning using a professional, multidisciplinary team treatment approach.


S.A.F.E. ALTERNATIVES® Adolescent Expressions

The S.A.F.E. ALTERNATIVES® Adolescent Expressions philosophy and model of treatment focuses on shifting the control to the clients and empowering them to make healthier choices, including the choice to not self-injure. Our goal is to help the client understand the consequences of their choices, and identifying healthier ways to manage their distress. The program utilizes a combination of treatment modalities and is a component of S.A.F.E. Alternatives® , a world-renowned program for clients who self injure, which has been in operation for 22 years. (www.selfinjury.com)

The Minirth Christian Program

The Minirth Christian Program is a specialty program available at NorthPointe for adolescents. The Minirth Christian Program partners with pastors, churches, medical and mental health professionals in merging sound professional treatment with biblical principles.
